A cultural city is designated according to Article 15 of The Regional Culture Promotion Act to help cities develop their capacity for cultural creation by effectively utilizing cultural assets unique to specific regions including culture and arts, cultural industry, tourism, tradition, history, and visual images.

• Cheongju was legally designated as a cultural city certified by the government in December 2019 under Article 15 of The Regional Culture Promotion Act.
• Under the vision of ‘a city of creativity and archival culture’, since 2020, Cheongju citizens have strived to make Cheongju a city where people can be immersed in culture all-year-round.
